On June 21st, the House Science, Space and Technology committee reported out H.R. 4090, the Fire Grants and Safety Act of 2023 on a 29-0 unanimous vote.
The bill proposes a five-year reauthorization for the AFG and SAFER programs, with an annual authorization funding level of $750 million for five fiscal years, 2024 through FY 2028. The sunset clause for AFG and SAFER extends to 2030.
The USFA is authorized at $95 million for each of the fiscal years 2024 through 2028.
Original bipartisan co-sponsors of the bill included Rep. Tom Kean, (R-NJ) and Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-NJ).
