This week, The U.S. House of Representatives is in recess and back home in their districts. During this time, we are encouraging all FAMA and FEMSA members to contact their Congressional members in their districts and to ask them to support H.R. 3881 – The AFG and SAFER Program Reauthorization Act of 2017 (click here for bill).
H.R. 3881 was introduced in September by Congressman Peter King (R) – (NY 2) and Congressman Bill Pascrell (D) – (NJ 9). The House bill mirrors the Senate AFG and SAFER Reauthorization Act of 2017 – S.829 (click here for bill), which passed the Senate on August 2 of this year. Both bills reauthorize AFG and SAFER for 6 years, remove the program’s sunset provision, and maintain the current program structure including authorization levels.
Please call or email your district offices and ask your Congressional members to support H.R. 3881 – The AFG and SAFER Reauthorization Act of 2017.
If you prefer to communicate by email, here is a “sample” of the text you can simply cut, paste and send to your Congressional representatives – be sure to read it, eliminate bracketed phrases as needed, and “sign.” (Email addresses may be found in the Congress Directory you received this spring):
Dear Representative _____,
We encourage you to support the reauthorization of the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program and the SAFER program in this session of Congress. AFG and SAFER support first responders with upgraded gear and equipment to respond to natural disasters, terrorists threats, and emergency events. It is critical that we reauthorize these programs so our first responders can receive the safety equipment they need and deserve.
As a company in your district that manufactures [or provides] fire and emergency equipment [or services], we know we can count on you to make sure these important programs are continued. Please support AFG and SAFER by becoming a co-sponsor of H.R. 3881.
Please do not hesitate to call if you have any questions.
